Drug and Alcohol Management Policy
v2.2
Purpose. This policy sets out the drug and alcohol management plan requirements that apply to every person performing safety-sensitive aviation activities at SkyBridge.
1.Purpose
Impairment by alcohol or drugs endangers passengers, colleagues and the public. SkyBridge maintains a drug and alcohol management plan as the regulations require and applies it to all safety-sensitive aviation activities, including flying, cabin duties, ground handling, refuelling coordination, dispatch and instruction.
2.Standard
Workers performing safety-sensitive aviation activities must have a blood alcohol level of zero and must be free of drugs that impair performance. Workers must not consume alcohol within eight hours of a duty period and must declare any prescription or over-the-counter medication that carries an impairment warning to the duty manager before starting work.
3.Testing
SkyBridge will conduct random testing, testing after an accident or serious incident and testing where there is reasonable suspicion of impairment. Testing will be carried out by a trained collector using approved equipment. A worker who refuses a test will be removed from duty and the refusal treated as a positive result.
4.Support and return to work
A worker who self-declares a problem before a test will be offered assessment and support through the employee assistance program and will not face disciplinary action for the declaration. Return to duty after a positive result requires medical clearance and a return to work plan.
5.Education
All workers will complete drug and alcohol education at induction and every three years. Supervisors will complete training in recognising signs of impairment and in the testing procedure.
6.Records and privacy
Test results and medical information are held by the safety and compliance manager in restricted files and are disclosed only as the regulations require.
