CAQA SkyBridge Aviation, regional airline, ground operations and flight training
CAQA SkyBridge Aviation is a regional airline that connects inland New South Wales towns with each other and with Sydney using a fleet of eight turboprop aircraft seating between 19 and 34 passengers. The airline carries about 190,000 passengers a year on scheduled services, flies charter for mining, health and government clients, and moves freight including time-critical medical and agricultural consignments. Alongside the airline, SkyBridge runs its own ground handling at each port and a flight training academy that trains commercial pilots and flight instructors, many of whom go on to fly for the airline.
The business is organised into six departments: flight operations, cabin services, ground operations, the flight training academy, passenger services and a safety and compliance team that reports to the chief executive. Flight crew and cabin crew are rostered on a 28-day pattern with sign-on from 5:00 am for the first departure and the last arrival at 9:30 pm. Ground crews work early, day and late shifts across the ramp, baggage and freight sheds. The academy flies seven days a week, weather permitting, and shares the maintenance hangar and the aerodrome with the airline.
Safety before schedule
No departure is worth an unmanaged risk, and anyone can stop an operation to raise a safety concern.
Just culture
People who report honestly are supported, and the business looks for system causes before individual blame.
Regional service
The towns SkyBridge serves depend on it, so reliability, courtesy and fair fares matter as much as the flying.
Professional standards
Every crew member, ground handler and instructor holds current qualifications and works to the documented standard, every flight.
Services and operations
To connect regional communities safely and reliably, and to train the next generation of aviation professionals to the same standard.
Scheduled regional passenger services
Daily scheduled flights linking Tamworth, Dubbo, Armidale and Sydney with turboprop aircraft, including connections timed for medical appointments, business travel and university terms.
Charter and fly-in fly-out services
Contract and ad hoc charter flights for mining, health, government and sporting clients, with dedicated check-in, tailored schedules and freight capacity on every sector.
Air freight
Acceptance, weighing, documentation and carriage of general freight, perishables, medical consignments and dangerous goods within the limits of the airline's dangerous goods approval.
Ground handling
Ramp, baggage, freight, aircraft marshalling, refuelling coordination and turnaround services at each port for SkyBridge flights and for visiting operators under handling agreements.
Commercial pilot training
Integrated commercial pilot licence courses, instrument ratings, multi-engine endorsements and flight instructor ratings delivered by the academy using single and twin-engine training aircraft and a flight simulator.
Ground crew and cabin crew training
Induction, recurrent and endorsement training for ground handling, dangerous goods awareness and acceptance, cabin safety and aviation security delivered by the airline's training team.
