Purpose. Ramp team leaders use this template to brief the team at the start of a shift and to hand over to the next shift so that hazards, equipment defects and open tasks are not lost between shifts.

1.Purpose

Most ramp occurrences happen when information is lost between shifts or when the team is not briefed on the day's specific risks. This template makes the start of shift briefing and the handover a documented step in the operation.

2.Start of shift briefing

Cover the flights and turnarounds for the shift, the weather and any lightning or wind restrictions, aircraft with special loads or dangerous goods, equipment out of service, staffing and any safety bulletin or recent occurrence. Ask the team about their fitness for duty and any concerns.

3.During the shift

Record any occurrence, defect, near miss or change to the plan as it happens so that the handover is accurate.

4.Handover

Hand over face to face where possible. Walk through open tasks, equipment defects, freight awaiting acceptance, passengers with assistance requirements and anything that the next team leader needs to know. Both team leaders sign the record.

5.Filing

File the record in the ramp office folder and enter any hazard or defect in the Safety Reporting System or the Ground Support Equipment Register before leaving.
